Like all guys.. I like to think about superpowers. Our culture is nearly obsessed with the idea… super heroes movies attest to this. Who wouldn’t want a little extra ability? Flying, super speed, invisibility, etc. = Awesome. I was reminded of this today when I saw an article about the kids who have been born with super strength.. it turns out they lack a certain chemical in their bodies that regulates the growth of muscles. Scientists have reproduced this in animals and created super buff mice.. cows.. and I even saw dog that had muscles on top of muscles.

So far, I have seen articles about people with the following super powers:

1) Super strength
2) Super memory
3) Ability to withstand extreme cold
4) Never needing to sleep
5) Super intellect
6) Not affected by pain

And some others.. but most are pretty dumb. Guy who can eat anything? Dumb.

Those are all within the grasp of humanity right now. Imagine someone insanely strong (without needing to excercise).. who never sleeps.. can swim naked in the antarctic.. never forgets ANYTHING.. and is mind blowingly intelligent. Awesome.

My personal favorite super power has always been flight.. but that’s not going to happen. However, having super speed would be the most practical of all super powers.. especially if you could use it like Superman to travel back in time (cheater).

Time to get back to being normal.

So.. now.. not only is our government making crappy cars.. it’s also buying them.

Next, they’ll be giving tax credits for buying GM (Government Motors) cars.. hooray for Marxism! Gov’t controls production!

Missing link for humans? No, this is a missing link for ancient primates (part lemur/part monkey). No, this does not "prove" evolution… though it does provide some compelling evidence. This fossil was found in 1980 and has been sitting a private collection. How is this breaking news? This thing has been sitting around for almost 30 years. It just happened to come out of hiding to celebrate the bicentenary of Darwin’s birth.

This is the media hype machine at it’s finest. Taking a 30 year old fossil and hyping into "The Missing Link" that’s proves that we are all just monkeys in nice clothes. We are more like lemmings.

I have come to understand something about myself recently: I am obsessed with efficiency. My love of technology.. my desire for things to be "neat".. my unwillingness to spend/waste money… it’s all about efficiency. When my wife first first met me I was living in a friends basement. When one first entered the room all they saw was a chair.. a lamp.. and a pile of clean laundry (oh yeah.. and maybe the aluminum foil and Christmas lights on the ceiling). The clean laundry pile was my undergarments.. socks underwear t-shirts.. stuff that people either fold or put in a dresser. My question is: Why do people fold that stuff? Who cares if it’s wrinkled.. no one ever sees it. The clothes I didn’t want wrinkled hung in my closet. It was a good system.

When I was in college I lived with a roommate who used thousands of dishes and filled our sink to overflowing with them. I decided that I would only use 4: A cup, a bowl, a fork and a spoon (I would have used a spork if I could have found one for free). When I was done with them I would wash them and put them away.  Eventually my roommate saw the error of his ways and converted.. then all of our dish/bug problems vanished. It was a good system.

I drive a scooter.. everyday. Rain or shine. It’s the most efficient way for me to get to/from work. I would take the bus (or ride a bike) but the amount of time that is consumes from me/my family is not worth it. Everything I do goes through a cost/benefit analysis. Everything has a value.

Inefficiency drives me crazy.. people who are late.. spending too much money on things.. driving large vehicles unnecessarily.. leaving lights on.. doors open.. buying crappy things that break constantly.. the list goes on and on. Everything that bothers me has to do with inefficiency.

Abortion: I think people make the choice when they choose to have sex with the “risk” of having children. Choice made. As I said before.. don’t jump off a cliff and change your mind half way down. But, our democracy has chosen to keep it legal.. so if you want to do something about it you should get involved with places like the Whatcom Pregnancy Clinic.. they give free ultrasounds.. which is the best deterrent of abortion.

Gay marriage: The real question here is not whether gay people should get married or not.. but why is the Government determining who can and can’t get married? When did that become the Government’s job? I personally don’t care who does or doesn’t get married. I also don’t think marriage should come with any tax benefits and the question should never come on any form. Why does it matter? The Government has better things to do. As for homosexuality in particular.. I have far too much sin in my life to start worrying about other people’s sin… at the end of the day they need Jesus just as much as I do. I would be a complete hypocrite if I condemned anyone for anything.

Marijuana: Legalize it.. tax it. We should put all the money from the taxes into mass transit so we don’t have to worry about people driving around high. The “chronic”, as I like to call it, is far less destructive then alcohol.. but far less acceptable. How come? I don’t think I’ll ever smoke it.. but I don’t have a problem with people do. Just don’t try to have a conversation with me when you are high (or drunk).. yes, you sound dumb. As Christians we are called to be “sober minded”.. but I don’t see being drunk or being stoned too much worse then not getting enough sleep because you were watching movies or you didn’t use your time wisely (I am not suggesting that that’s okay.. I am saying it’s not okay). I am sure I could find statistics showing that tired drivers cause far more accidents then stoned drivers. I actually saw a study showing stoned drivers drive better (smoking weed makes people paranoid).

A related topic would be cigarettes.. there are worse (or just as bad) things for your body that are perfectly acceptable.. such as downing tons of high-fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated oils and sitting on the couch all day. Yeah.. take that hypocrites (PS. Jesus loves you even though you’re a Pharisee.. maybe).
